This guide walks you through a command-line session on OIT's Web hosting server in which you create a passworded directory. Requiring a password can be helpful to instructors who want to limit access to handouts, or who need to comply with Fair Use rules on copyright.
In order to use this guide, you need to understand the directory structure of your OIT Web hosting account, and know basic UNIX commands. Not to be attempted by a novice! Faculty can call Academic Computing to make an appointment for a consultant to assist you in setting up a passworded directory.
