The files included in this directory are

Thesis2001.bin
Prelim2001.bin
umass2001.dot

Thesis2001 
    is an example of a thesis that meets the requirements
prelim2001.doc 
   is a file that you can use for the preliminary pages of a thesis, 
   substituting the names of your thesis, committee,
   program, etc. in the appropriate places
umass2001.dot
   is a Word template file to be used with your
   chapters to format the styles of paragraphs, headings, captions, 
   references, bibliography, Table of Contents, etc. correctly

Download the files to your Macintosh as MacBinary files. 
You can open either prelim2001.doc or thesis2001.doc as a Word file.
Copy the umass2001.dot file into the TEMPLATES folder under the Microsoft Office 
folder on your Mac. You can then select umass2001 as your template 
for a new file when you create the file; or, with an existing 
file, you can select umass2001 as the template by going under the 
TOOLS menu and selecting Templates and Add-Ins; 
then Attach umass2001 and be sure to click in the box for 
Automatically Update Document Styles.
In either case, assign the styles to the appropriate paragraphs 
in your chapters.
