These instructions utilize the network connection utility in Windows Vista. Please note that your computer may come with an additional proprietary connection utility, in which case, the first part of these instructions will not apply. However, the connection process should be relatively similar to the one described here.
Step 1: Connect to the UMass Wireless Network
- Go to Start > Connect To. The Connect to a network window will open.
- Right-click the UMASS wireless connection and from the pop-up menu, click Connect.
- Once connected, a Successfully Connected to UMASS message will appear.
Step 2: Log In to Access the Internet over the UMass Wireless Network
In order to use non-browser software (e.g., VoIP software, Online Virtual Worlds, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.) that requires an Internet connection, you must first open a Web browser and log in to the UMass wireless network with your NetID and OIT Account user name password.
- Open your browser and type in any URL. You will be automatically directed to the UMass Wireless Network login page.
- In the UMass Wireless Network login page, enter your NetID and OIT Account user name password. You will be redirected to the Web site you originally attempted to open.
- You can now view other Web sites or use non-browser programs that may require access to the Internet (e.g., VoIP software, Online Virtual Worlds, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.).
