Step 1: Configure Network Software to Use Wireless Card
- Go to Start > Settings > Control Panels > Network & Dial-up Connections.
- In the Network & Dial-up Connections window, right-click TrueMobile, then select Properties. The TrueMobile 1150 Properties window will open.
- Under Components checked are used by this connection:, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties.
- In the Internet Protocol TCP/IP Properties window, select Obtain an IP address automatically.
- Click OK to close the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties window. Click OK to close TrueMobile 1150 Properties window.
Step 2 : Configure Wireless Card to Connect to the UMass Network
- Go to Start > Settings > Control Panels > Wireless Network.
- In the Add/Edit Configuration Profile window, select Default, then select Access Point from the drop-down menu next to the profile name. Click Edit Profile.
- In the Edit Configuration Window, select the Basic tab. In the Network Name field, enter UMASS (all capital letters).
- Select the Encryption tab. Make sure that the Enable Data Security is not selected.
- Click OK to close the Wireless Network control panel.
Step 3: Log-in to the UMass Wireless Network
To connect to the UMass wireless network, you'll need to identify yourself as a member of the UMass community. To do so:
- Turn on or re-start your computer.
- Open an Internet browser (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer).
- Attempt to access a Web page.
- If your computer and wireless card are correctly configured, you will see the UMass wireless network log-in screen.
- In the fields on the left-hand side of the screen, enter your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMail password. If successful, you will be briefly directed to a confirmation screen and then to the Web page you tried to access.
