Macintosh OS 10.x with AirPort Card

Operating System: Mac OS 10

Step 1: Configure Network Software to Use Wireless Card

  1. From the Apple Menu, select System Preferences....
  2. Under Internet & Network, double-click Network.
  3. In the Network window, from the Show drop-down menu, select AirPort. A series of tabs will open underneath.
  4. Click the TCP/IP tab. From the Configure IPv4 drop-down menu, select Using DHCP.
  5. Click Apply Now to save the settings.

Step 2 : Configure Wireless Card to Connect to the UMass Network

  1. In the Network window, click the Airport tab.
  2. For Mac OS 10.1.x: From the Preferred Network drop-down menu, select UMASS.
    For Mac OS 10.2.x: From the By default, join drop-down menu, select a specific network. In the Network field, enter UMASS.
  3. Click Apply Now to save the changes.

Step 3: Log in to the UMass Wireless Network

To connect to the UMass wireless network, you'll need to identify yourself as a member of the UMass community. To do so:

  1. Turn on or re-start your computer.
  2. Open an Internet browser (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer) and attempt to access a Web page.
  3. If your computer and wireless card are correctly configured, you will see the UMass wireless network login screen.
  4. In the fields on the left-hand side of the screen, enter your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMail password. If successful, you will be briefly directed to a confirmation screen and then to the Web page you tried to access.
