Personal Web Sites
Each OIT Account (faculty, staff or student) is allocated 100 MB of file space on the OIT Web hosting server (webadmin.oit.umass.edu). URLs for Personal Web sites are: http://people.umass.edu/username where username is your NetID (OIT Account user name).
Activate your Web Space
Your Web site is waiting for you! To activate your account, use Secure File Transfer (SFTP) or Secure Shell (SSH) software to connect to webadmin.oit.umass.edu. You'll need your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMail password to log in.

Retrieving Your OITUNIX Web Site Files
If you did not migrate your personal or course Web site to the new Web hosting server and would like to continue to make it public, you can still do so after the August 9, 2007 shut-off date. Retrieving OITUNIX Files
Getting Started
- An OIT Account: You will need a NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMail password to access your space on the OITUNIX server. If you do not have an account, or if you have forgotten your password, go to the Help Desk (A113 LGRC). Don't forget to bring your UCard!
- File Transfer Software: You will need Secure File Transfer (SFTP) software to upload and download your files. Use the Supported Software & Download pages to find out which SFTP clients are OIT-supported. Read more about about SFTP You can also use the SFTP client included in Dreamweaver 8.
- Web Authoring Software: Web pages can be created by hand using a text editor such as NotePad (Windows) or Simple Text (Macintosh); HTML editing software such as BBEdit; or graphics software such as Macromedia Dreamweaver (recommended).
- A Connection to the Internet: You will need a computer with a connection to the Internet through the UMass network or another Internet Service Provider (ISP). Learn how to connect to the the UMass Network.
