Web Site Account Agreement

The UMass Amherst WWW server (www.umass.edu) provides access to interactive, electronic information online. The information is provided by designated individuals from legitimate campus organizations within the University community. This WWW server (www.umass.edu) is administered by the Networking and Academic Computing branches of the Office of Information Technologies (OIT). OIT provides the technology and acts only as the publisher of the information.

Any legitimate campus organization may make information available via the WWW server (www.umass.edu). A legitimate campus organization can be a school, an administrative office, an academic department, or a registered student organization.

Information Provider Contract

Each organization must designate an information provider for their information and have a signed provider contract on file with OIT.

Responsbilities of the Department Head

By signing this contract, the Dean/Department Head/Director of the UMass Amherst organization agrees to:

  • Designate an Information Provider.
  • Notify OIT if the Information Provider designee for their organization changes.
  • Abide by this World Wide Web Server agreement and any other applicable campus policies, paying particular attention to OIT's Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Stress the importance of providing accurate and up-to-date information to a world-wide community.

Responsibilities of the Information Provider

By signing the contract, the Information Provider agrees to:

  • Be the sole contact for their campus organization.
  • Be responsible for the accuracy and currency of the information his/ her organization provide.
  • Keep a valid UMass Amherst email account.
  • Ensure that in the organizational account housing the information is kept active.
  • Keep only documents pertaining to the organizational web page on the WWW server (www.umass.edu) and abide by any limits of the storage space allocation provided.
  • See that any web pages created contain the following:
    • Name of Organization
    • Mailing Address of Organization
    • Telephone number
    • Fax if available
    • Email address for questions and comments
    • Date page last updated (recommended, but not mandatory)
