To use Voice over IP, you’ll need to install and configure the X-Lite client. This piece of software allows you to make and receive voice calls on your computer.

Download & Install the X-Lite Client

  1. Download the X-Lite Client from the CounterPath Web site: http://www.counterpath.com/x-lite.html.
Note: You will have to provide CounterPath with your name and a valid email address in order to download the installation file.
  2. In the File Download - Security window, click Save and select a location in your computer where you wish to save the file.
  3. Once the download is complete, click the X-Lite installation file. The Setup X-Lite Wizard will open. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the file. You will be required to restart your computer to complete the installation.
Note: We recommend that you keep all default settings intact.

Configure the X-Lite Client

  1. When your computer restarts after the installation, the Call Quality Information window will open.
  2. The Call Quality Information window will ask if you’d like X-Lite to collect information about the quality of your calls. Click Yes if you agree or No to opt-out (recommended). The SIP Accounts window will open.

  4. In the Properties of Account 1 window, under the Account tab:
    • In the Display Name field, enter your name.
    • In the User name field, enter the last 5 digits of your VoIP phone number (no spaces or dashes).
    • In the Password field, enter the VoIP password you received via email.
Note: This password is not the same as the password that you use to access your VoIP voicemail.
    • In the Authorization user name field, enter the last 5 digits of your VoIP phone number (no spaces or dashes).
    • In the Domain field, enter 128.119.3.121
    • Under Domain Proxy, make sure the Register with domain and receive incoming calls and target domain options are both selected.
