Call Forwarding & 'Follow Me' Rules

There are two ways to set up rules that let you forward calls using VoIP, "Follow Me" and "Forward". "Follow Me" lets you send calls to a series of numbers in order until the call is answered. "Forward" lets you distribute calls from specific users to different phone numbers.

Set up Forward Rules

Note: The VoIP Web Interface offers extensive Help information about the different parameters available for calling or voicemail rules. These instructions are intended to provide a basic introduction to the most common rule features. For information on advance options for calling or voicemail rules, click Help on the VoIP Web Console toolbar or refer to the QUICK HELP information available on the Interaction Rule screens.

  1. Open your Web browser and log in to the VoIP Web Console. The VoIP Home screen will open.
  2. On the VoIP Home screen, on the toolbar at top, click Rules. The Interaction Rules screen will open.
  3. On the Interaction Rules screen, under My Inbound Call Rules, click Click Here to Create New Call Rule. The Add Interaction Rule screen will open
  4. On the Add Interaction Rule screen, select the radio button next to Forward and click Continue (at bottom). An Interaction Rule screen will open.
  5. On the Interaction Rule screen:
    • Under Rule Name, enter a name that will let you easily identify your rule.
    • Under Apply Forward to, select all callers to apply the rule to all incoming calls or specific caller(s)to specify the individual users, groups or phone numbers that this rule will cover.
    • Under Forward incoming calls to:, in the Number field, enter a 5-digit campus extension (i.e., x-xxxx) or 9 plus the local phone number (i.e., 9-xxx-xxxx) where you would like to send your calls.
      Note: You can only forward VoIP calls to on-campus extensions and local phone numbers.
  6. Once you are finished setting up the parameters for your call forwarding rule, on the Interaction Rule screen, click Save (at bottom). You will return to the Interaction Rules screen. Your new rule will be listed under My Inbound Call Rules.

Set up 'Follow Me' Rules

  1. Open your Web browser and log in to the VoIP Web Console. The VoIP Home screen will open.
  2. On the VoIP Home screen, on the toolbar at top, click Rules. The Interaction Rules screen will open.
  3. On the Interaction Rules screen, under My Inbound Call Rules, click Click Here to Create New Call Rule. The Add Interaction Rule screen will open.
  4. On the Add Interaction Rule screen, select the radio button next to Follow Me and click Continue (at bottom). An Interaction Rule screen will open.
  5. On the Interaction Rule screen:
    • Under Rule Name, enter a name that will let you easily identify your rule.
    • Under Apply Forward to, select all callers to apply the rule to all incoming calls or specific caller(s) to specify the individual users, groups or phone numbers that this rule will cover.
    • Under Have Incoming Calls Follow Me, on the Follow me list, in each Phone field, enter one or more 5 digit campus extensions (i.e., x-xxxx) or local phone numbers where you would like to send your calls.
      Note: Note, you must dial 9 before calling a local number (i.e., 9-xxx-xxxx). Incoming calls will be bounced to each of these numbers in the order they are listed until someone answers. You can only forward VoIP calls to on-campus extensions and local phone numbers.
  6. Once you are finished setting up the parameters for your call forwarding rule, on the Interaction Rule screen, click Save (at bottom). You will return to the Interaction Rules screen and your new rule will be listed under My Inbound Call Rules.
