Configure Entourage 2004 for Macintosh

Software: Microsoft Entourage 2004 11.4

Operating System: Mac OS

Note: These instructions follow the version of the software noted above. For other versions, there may be some variation, but the information below should serve as a guide to get you started. To identify the version of your software, look for the About link in the software's main menu or Help menu.

  1. Open Entourage. If this is the first time you are using Entourage, the Entourage Setup Assistant window will open. Close the Entourage Setup Assistant.
  2. Go to Entourage > Account Settings. The Accounts window will open.
  3. In the Accounts window, select the Mail tab and click New. The Account Setup Assistant window will open.
  4. In the Account Setup Assistant window, on the bottom left-hand side, click Configure Account Manually. The New Account window will open.
  5. In the New Account window, in the Account type drop-down menu, select IMAP, and then click OK. The Edit Account window will open.
  6. In the Edit Account window, on the Account Settings tab:
    • In the Account name field, enter a name for your account (e.g., UMail Account).
    • In the Name field, enter your name.
      Note: This will appear in the From field of your outgoing messages.
    • In the E-mail address field, enter your UMail address.
    • In the Account ID field, enter your OIT Account NetID.
    • In the IMAP server field, enter mail-?.oit.umass.edu, where ? is the first letter of your NetID.
    • Leave the Password field blank.
      Note: For security purposes, we recommend that you do not enter or save your password.
    • Select Click here for advanced receiving options. A drop-down menu will open. From the drop-down menu:
      • Select This IMAP service requires secure connection (SSL). The port number below will automatically change from 143 to 993.
      • Click the gray box (top left) to close the menu.
    • In the SMTP server field, enter mail-auth.oit.umass.edu
    • Just under the SMTP server field, select Click here for advanced sending options. A drop-down menu will open. From the drop-down menu:
      • Select the check box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL).
      • Select Override default SMTP port and enter 465.
      • Select SMTP server requires authentication, and then select Use same settings as receiving mail server.
      • Click the gray box (top left) to close the menu.
    • Click OK to close the Edit Account window.
  7. The Enter account ID and password window opens. Verify that your NetID is entered in the Account ID field. Enter your OIT Account password and click OK.
  8. On the Mail screen, select the Inbox under your UMail account name. You should see all the emails currently in your UMail Inbox.
  9. To check that your outgoing mail server settings are correct, use Entourage to send a message to your UMail address. The message should appear momentarily in your Entourage inbox.

Congratulations! Entourage 2004 is now configured to send and receive messages for your UMail account.
