Configure Entourage 2004 for UMail

Software: Microsoft Entourage 2004

Operating System: Mac OS

  1. Open Entourage.
  2. If this is the first time you are using Entourage, the Entourage Setup Assistant window will open. Close the Entourage Setup Assistant.
  3. Go to Entourage > Account Settings… The Accounts window will open. In the Accounts window, select the Mail tab and click New. The Account Setup Assistant window will open.
  4. In the Account Setup Assistant window, on the bottom left-hand side, click Configure Account Manually. The New Account window will open.
  5. In the New Account window, in the Account type: drop-down menu, select IMAP, then click OK. The Edit Account window will open.
  6. In the Edit Account window, on the Account Settings tab:
    • In the Account name: field, enter a name for your UMail Entourage account (e.g., Work Account).
    • In the Name: field, enter your name (note that this is the name your recipients will see in their inboxes).
    • In the E-mail address: field, enter your UMail address.
    • In the Account ID: field, enter your NetID(OIT account user name).
    • In the IMAP server: field, enter mail-?.oit.umass.edu, where ? is the first-letter of your NetID (OIT Account user name).
    • In the Password: field, enter your UMail password.
      Note: We recommend that you DO NOT select the check box next to Save password in My Mac OS X Keychain.
    • Select Click here for advanced receiving options. A drop-down menu will open. From the drop-down menu:
      • Select the check box next to This IMAP service requires secure connection (SSL). The port number below will automatically change from 143 to 993.
      • Click the gray box (top left) to close the menu.
    • In the SMTP server: field, enter mail-auth.oit.umass.edu
      Note: For more information on using non-UMass ISPs to access UMail, see our Authenticated SMTP
    • Still in the Edit Account, select Click here for advanced sending options. A drop-down menu will open. From the drop-down menu:
      • Select the check box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL).
      • Select the check box next to Override default SMTP port: and enter 465.
      • Select the check box next to SMTP server requires authentication and select the radio button next to Use same settings as receiving mail server.
  7. Congratulations—you are now ready to connect to UMail.
