UMail Post Office

The UMail Post Office allows you to manage your UMail account, regardless of how you access it. Set email forwarding. Check your quota. Create Vacation messages. Activate spam filtering.

Log in to the UMail Post Office

To log in to the UMail Post Office:

  1. On the UMass home page, click UMail (lower left corner). The UMail at UMass Amherst page will open.
  2. Click UMail Post Office. The UMail Post Office login page will open.
  3. Log in using your UMail user name and password.

Account Information

This screen shows you the amount of space you have left from your UMail quota. Remember - faculty and staff have 150 MB and students have 30 MB.

Forward Email

On this screen, set up UMail to forward all messages you receive in your UMail account to a different email address:

  1. Select Forward all incoming email to this address.
  2. Enter the desired email address in the field provided.
  3. Click Submit. Forwarding now enabled will appear in red at the top of the screen.

Vacation Reply

On this screen, set up a Vacation Reply which will be automatically sent to anyone who sends you an email message while you are gone. The message will inform your contacts that you are on vacation, but you will read their message once you return.

  1. Under Enable or disable the vacation reply, select Enable this vacation reply message.
  2. Use the suggested message or edit it as you prefer.
  3. (optional) Under Specify vacation reply expiration date, enter the date of your return. Otherwise, you will have to manually disable the vacation reply once you get back.
  4. (optional) Next, enter any email addresses that you do not wish to receive this vacation reply.
  5. Click Submit Changes.

Spam Filtering

You can now choose to have your email filtered for spam. Find more information about this service and strategies for reducing spam on our Spam pages.

  1. Select the action you would like to take (e.g., Enable spam filtering or Disable spam filtering).
  2. Select the number of days after which old spam will be automatically deleted.
  3. Click Submit Changes to enable/ disable spam filtering.
  4. If you have chosen to activate the service, you will see a spam folder under your UMail Inbox. All incoming messages will be filtered and those identified as spam will be tagged <spam> and moved to this folder.
    If you have previously had this service and have chosen to discontinue it, the spam folder with all of the tagged email will remain in your Inbox, but new incoming mail will not be filtered.

Change Password

  1. Check OIT's rules for passwords and choose a new password that meets these rules and you can remember.
  2. Enter your current UMail password and the new password in the fields provided.
  3. Click Submit Password Change. Password changed. Your password has been changed will appear in red at the top of the page.
