Versioning

You can set up UDrive to automatically save a version of a file each time a file of the same name is uploaded to the UDrive. This is a great way to keep track of changes to a file, especially when more than one person is editing it.

Turn Versioning On and Off

  1. Locate the file for which you want to turn on versioning. See Navigate Folders for more information.
  2. Next to the file, click the Manage (Manage icon) icon. The Manage: screen will open.
  3. On the Manage: screen, under Collaboration:, from the Versions: drop-down menu, select On. The Manage: screen will display the number of versions of your file currently on UDrive.
  4. To turn versioning off, from the Versions: drop-down menu, select Off.

    Note: When you turn versioning off, you lose all of the versions created except the most recent version of the file. To keep older versions, before you turn off versioning, copy the versions you would like to keep .

View an Older Version of a File

  1. Locate the file for which you would like to see older versions.See Navigate Folders for more information.
  2. Next to the file, click the Manage (Manage icon) icon. The Manage: screen will open.
  3. On the Manage: screen, under Collaboration:, click Versions:. The Version History For: screen will opening displaying the versions of your files in reverse chronological order (from newest to oldest).
  4. On the Version History For: screen, click on the link for the Version (e.g., Version 2) you would like to open.
  5. To edit the file, save it on your computer, modify the file, then upload it using the same name. See Edit Files for more information.

Copy an Older Version

If you would like to turn versioning off for a particular file, but would still like to keep older versions of that file, you will have to copy the file to a place within your home directory.

  1. Locate the file for which you would like to see older versions.See Navigate Folders for more information.
  2. Next to the file, click the Manage (Manage icon) icon. The Manage: screen will open.
  3. On the Manage: screen, under Collaboration:, click Versions:. The Version History For: screen will opening displaying the versions of your files in reverse chorological order (from newest to oldest).
  4. Next to the version you would like to copy, click the Make a copy icon (). The Copy: screen will open.
  5. On the Copy: screen, in the Destination: field, enter the pathway to the folder in which you would like to save the file or click Browse to search for the file, then click Ok. The Version History For... screen will open, and a copy of the file will appear in the location you designated.
