UDrive allows you to view a log of who has accessed your shared UDrive files or folders. Whether you share your files with students or coworkers, this allows you to monitor who has been working on what so you can avoid duplicate efforts and loss of work or to make sure that everyone in a group of contacts (such as a class) has accessed a given file or folder. Logging is turned off by default, you will have to activate it.
Activate logging for a folder
- In UDrive, next to the folder that you want to monitor, click the Manage (
) icon. The Manage: screen will open. - On the Manage: screen, under Collaboration, click Default Logging. The Default Logging for: … screen will open.
- On the Default Logging for: … screen:
- From the Default Logging is: drop-down menu, select On. Now all files within this folder will have logging activated.
- Select the box next to Apply this setting to all sub-directories as well as all files if you want logging to be activated on all of the folders (and the files they contain) within the original folder you wanted to monitor.
- Click Apply Now. The Default Logging for: … screen will reload, displaying a message that reads: The Default Event Logging settings for this Folder have been modified. On the Navigation Toolbar, click Back to return to the Manage: screen.
Activate logging for a single file
- In UDrive, next to the file that you want to monitor, click the Manage (
) icon. The Manage: screen will open. - On the Manage: screen, under Collaboration, from the Logging: drop-down menu, select On. The screen will reload and the drop-down menu will display On as the selected option. Logging is now activated for this file.
- On the Navigation Toolbar, click Back to return to the Manage: screen or use your Bookmarks to navigate to another section of your UDrive.
View an access log
The access log shows you the access activity for a file you are monitoring.
- In UDrive, next to the file you are monitoring, click the Manage (
) icon. The Manage: screen will open. - On the Manage: screen, under Collaboration, click Logging:. The Log History for: … screen will open showing the display names of all the users that have accessed the file since monitoring began plus the action they performed, the access date, and their IP address.
- On the Log History for: … screen:
- Click Refresh Log to update the information on display.
- Click Disable Access Logging to stop monitoring the file.
- Click Enable Access Logging to resume logging if you have disabled it.
- On the Navigation Toolbar, click Back to return to the Manage: screen or use your Bookmarks to navigate to another section of your UDrive.
