Connect to UMASS-SECURE1X with Windows

Use the instructions below to connect to UMass Amherst's secure wireless network, UMASS-SECURE1X, using our setup and configuration software, XpressConnect. You can also use these instructions to recreate your connection if it is deleted or if you change your OIT Account password.

Note:

• XpressConnect can run on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows operating systems.
• Running XpressConnect will also set up a wireless profile for eduroam.

1. Make sure that you are on campus with your wireless card turned on.
2. Select UMASS from your list of available wireless networks.
3. Open your Web browser and go to www.oit.umass.edu/xpressconnect. The Web Login page will open. 
4. On the Web Login page, enter your OIT Account NetID and password. The Connect to UMASS-SECURE1X with XPressConnect screen will open. Click Run XpressConnect.
5. Review the End-User License Agreement, then select the box next to I accept the terms of the End-User License Agreement and click Start. A pop-up window will open and the XpressConnect wizard will run.
   Note: Depending on your browser settings, you may be prompted to download and run the XpressConnect wizard manually. Check the Downloads folder on your computer and select the file NetworkWizardLoader.exe. Follow the instructions on the screen.
6. In the XpressConnect window, on the Welcome screen, enter your OIT Account NetID and password, then click Continue (when you enter your NetID, it will auto append "@umass.edu" in the username field. This is necessary, so leave it there).
   Note: Additional software may be required. If so, the XpressConnect window will give you a prompt. Click Install.
7. You may be prompted for your computer's Administrator name and password. Enter them and click OK.
   Note: Your administrator user name and password are different from your OIT Account NetID and password. If you do not know your administrator account information, contact your system administrator. If you do not have a system administrator, contact the OIT Help Center for assistance. 
8. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. When installation is complete, click Done. UMASS-SECURE1X and eduroam should both appear in your networks list. 
9. To check whether the network has been properly installed and configured, open a Web browser to test your connectivity.
