Connect to UMASS-SECURE1X with iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad

Use the instructions below to connect your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to UMass Amherst's secure wireless network, UMASS-SECURE1X, using our setup wizard, XpressConnect. You can also use these instructions to recreate your connection if it is deleted or if you change your OIT Account password.

• These instructions are based on iPhone 4GS. Depending on your device and the version of your device's operating system, actual steps may vary.
• To use XpressConnect, you must be on campus and connected to the UMass Amherst wireless network.
• You will be prompted for your OIT Account NetID and password, and your device's password several times during the installation process. Please read the prompts carefully to ensure you are entering the correct information. 
• To set up a wireless profile for eduroam, you will need to select UMASS-eduroam Secure Wireless Network when asked. If you want to set up UMASS-SECURE1X and eduroam, you need to run XpressConnect twice to select each profile.

1. Make sure you are on campus with your wireless card turned on (under Settings > Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi option must be ON).
2. Select UMASS from your list of available wireless networks. The Wireless Login page will open automatically.
3. On the Wireless Login page, click Connect to UMASS-SECURE1X (orange button). (Optional) If the Wireless Login page does not open automatically, open Safari and go to www.oit.umass.edu/xpressconnect. The Web Login page will open.
4. On the Web Login page, enter your OIT Account NetID and password, then on the next screen, click Run XpressConnect (maroon button).
5. Select the network you wish to join, either UMASS-SECURE1X Secure Wireless Network or UMASS-eduroam Secure Wireless Network. Once you've selected one and complete the next steps, you can run XpressConnect again to set up the other network profile.
6. At the bottom of the next screen, accept the Terms of the End-User License Agreement, then click Start.
7. Follow the installation prompts. You may be prompted for your OIT Account NetID and password, and your device-specific password several times during the installation process. 
   Notes:
   • When you enter your NetID you must add "@umass.edu" after it in the username field. This is necessary to set up the eduroam profile.
   • Be sure to read the prompts carefully to ensure you are entering the correct information.
   • If your device does not have a password enabled, try a blank password or contact the OIT Help Center for assistance.  

   You may have to go back to your device's Settings to finish installing the profile.

8. A pop-up may open informing you that you still need to associate to the wireless network. Tap OK. A Web page with instructions will open. You can also go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap UMASS-SECURE1X to connect.  
9. Open Safari and attempt to access any Web site to confirm your connection is successful.
