SPIRE for Staff Queries

The Query Viewer allows users to run pre-built queries and either view the results online or download data to work with in spreadsheet applications. Some query field name descriptions are abbreviated, the Data Dictionary provides explanations of query fields. Subject area codes are specific, below we provide a guide to the possible subject area codes used in queries.

The SPIRE for Staff queries are intended for staff in academic departments to provide information about department course offerings and department student data. The queries include information on undergraduate students such as listing a department's majors, department course offering information, graduate student information, and textbook/class materials information for your department's courses.

Contact the Undergraduate Registrar's Office if you need access to undergraduate student information, department course offerings or textbook information queries. Contact Claudia Donald at cgdonald@grad.umass.edu if you need access to graduate student information queries.

• For staff and faculty with SPIRE Undergraduate Query access, access a list of the Available SPIRE for Staff Queries (PDF, 51k). These queries provide information about department's undergraduate students, such as your department's majors, honors, and students with assigned advisors. These queries also provide information about your department's course offerings.
   
• For those with SPIRE B staff access to SPIRE, use Textbook Queries to audit your department's compliance with textbook and class materials information reporting requirements. Use the queries to determine which of your department classes have textbook and/or class materials information entered and which do not.
