Step One: Review the FERPA Tutorial

Our FERPA Tutorial translates the legal language into simple, easy-to-remember scenarios to help you understand more about FERPA's provisions and how they are applied at UMass Amherst. Review it any time from the comfort of your office before taking the FERPA quiz or as a refresher afterward. Download the tutorial from the list in the right-hand column in either PowerPoint or PDF format. You must have Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view PDF files. If needed, you can download it for free from the Adobe Web site.

Step Two: Take the FERPA Certification Quiz Online

Applicants for SPIRE for Staff or SPIRE for Advisors access: We recommend that you take the online FERPA quiz as soon as possible. Do be sure to take it before you attend the first SPIRE training for which you have been approved. Your new access will not be activated following training until you have completed FERPA Certifcation.
