Add & Remove Course Tools in SPARK

You need to activate the tools you wish to use in your SPARK course. Once activated, the tool will show in the Course Tools menu and you will have the option to add a Content Link for the tool on a page.

  1. In your SPARK course, click the Build tab.
  2. On the Designer Tools menu (bottom left), click Manage Course. The Manage Course screen will open.
  3. On the Manage Course screen, click the Tools link. The Tools screen will open.
  4. On the Tools screen, under Student Learning Activities, check the boxes next to the tools you wish to add or uncheck the tools you wish to remove and click Save.
  5. You will return to the Manage Course screen. Tools that you selected will now appear at left under Course Tools. Tools you unselected will no longer appear in the Course Tools menu.

Note: Removing a tool from a course does not destroy any work you or your students have done using that tool. If you restore the tool, discussion posts, calendar events, etc. will be restored. There is also the option to hide, rather than remove a tool.

Students can access all instances of a tool by using the Course Tools menu on the left. You can also add a Content Link on the Home Page, or a folder page in a Learning Module. (see below)

Link to a Tool from a Course Content Page or Learning Module

If you want to emphasize a specific instance of a tool, such as a particular assignment or a discussion thread, you can create a link on the Course Content page, on a folder page, or within a Learning Module.

  1. On the Build tab on the Course Content page, select the Add Content link at the top of the page.
  2. From the Add Content Link context menu, select the tool you wish to link to. The tool will expand giving you two options. For instance, click Create Assignment if you want to create a new instance of this particular tool. Or if you have previously created content links for this tool, you can select one from the Select from inventory field.
  3. When you’ve selected what tool you’d like to add, click Add Selected. The link will now be added to the Course Content page.
