Use the instructions below to scan documents in OIT Computer Classrooms and the Learning Commons using scanners connected to WIndows computers.
Save your document in a format and size that fits your needs. The default scan resolution of 300 ppi (pixels per inch) means that if you scanned a letter paper size document it will be approximately 20MB; much too large to attach to an email or put on a Web site. If you are not sure how you will use the image (e.g. PowerPoint, Web or print), or if you will use it for multiple purposes, begin with a high quality scan, and then resize copies in Photoshop for each particular use. Consult the tables below to help you resize your document.

To save your image as a JPG or GIF:
You can plug in your USB drive to any available USB slot on the front of the computer to save, copy/paste, or drag-and-drop files to your device.
You can also save your scanned documents to your UDrive account. Files stored in your UDrive will be available to you from any computer that has an Internet connection.
You can print your scanned black-and-white or color content from your computer using pay-for-print in the Learning Commons. To learn more about Pay-for-Print, see our Pay-for-Print documentation.
You can use UMail or your favorite Web mail service to send scanned documents as email attachments to yourself or others. If you do so, we recommend that you keep file sizes under 1 MB (1000 KB) to make them easier to upload and download.
