SPIRE & Your NetID

Students, instructors, and staff can use their NetID (OIT Account user name) and password to log on to SPIRE, in addition to their old SPIRE logon information.

Your NetID & Password

Your NetID (OIT Account user name) is your primary user name for OIT services, including UMail, SPIRE, UDrive, and the campus network. Your NetID is a case-sensitive ID, typically based on your first and/or last name. It is not your Social Security Number, or your 8-digit ID from your UCard. Learn more...

  • If you already have an OIT Account, simply use your NetID and password to log on to SPIRE. This is the same information that you use to access UMail.
  • To sign up for an OIT Account, come to OIT Account Management, room A113, LGRC, M-F, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Don’t forget your UCard!
Note: To be eligible for an OIT Account, you must be an active UMass Amherst student, faculty, staff, retiree, or a 5-College student enrolled in a UMass course. Learn more...

Your OIT Account Password is your key to all OIT services, including SPIRE, UMail, and UDrive. Manage Your Password

What if I have two SPIRE accounts (a.k.a. roles)?

If you are a student and an instructor or staff member, your NetID and password are by default linked to your instructor/staff account. To log on as a student, use your NetID and password, then select the Use alternate role check box on the SPIRE Logon page.

To change these defaults, you can select your preferred SPIRE role and link your NetID with the SPIRE account of your choice.

Note: If your SPIRE roles were set up before January 2008, you can continue to use your 8-digit SPIRE ID to log on to your student account, and your alphanumeric SPIRE ID for your instructor/staff role, in addition to your NetID and password.
