- (Optional) Get your Registration Approval Code (a.k.a. RAC). A RAC is an additional password that you may need in order to register for classes in SPIRE. Your advisor will give it to you if you need one.
- Check your Enrollment Appointment for the time window within which you can register for this term.
Note: For the Summer 2008 term, University day students should use SPIRE to request a CPE Enrollment Appointment and to register for classes.
- Clear any holds. A hold on your record restricts your ability to register for classes. Make sure you clear any outstanding items before attempting to register.
About Registration in SPIRE
A few reminders:
Related Components. Some classes may have a related component (e.g., a discussion section or a lab) required for full registration. Make sure you check your course selection and select a related component when necessary.
Time Conflicts. You cannot pre-register for two courses that meet at the same time (or even overlap briefly) in SPIRE. Once the semester starts, if you have permission from both instructors, you can submit a request to the Registrar’s Office. If space is available and you meet all other requirements for the course, you will be added into the conflicting course.
Requisites & Other Enrollment Restrictions. Some courses are restricted to majors or upper-level students. Others require instructor consent or various requisites. Any enrollment restrictions for a class appear on its Class Detail page in the Schedule of Classes. If you do not meet the requirements, you cannot add restricted classes in SPIRE. Contact the instructor or the academic department instead.
Alternatives to SPIRE Registration
To register for:
- Continuing & Professional Education courses, use the Continuing & Professional Education Web site. Note: Starting in May 2008, CPE will be running a pilot to allow some students to use SPIRE to register for Summer classes. Only University day students who are matriculated in University programs are included in the pilot. Learn more… All other students must contact CPE directly to register.
- Five-College courses, download the enrollment request form from SPIRE (look under Student Home) and submit it to the Five College Interchange Office, 614 Goodell, (undergraduate students) or in the Graduate Records Office, 534 Goodell (graduate students). Learn more...
