UMass Amherst People Finder

Email Addresses

On the Email Addresses page, you can:

A. View your official email address (a.k.a. your UMail address). Please remember:

  • You received your UMail address when you activated your OIT Account.
  • All UMass Amherst students are required to check their UMail regularly for official University communications.
  • Note to graduate students: UMail remains your official email address, even if you also have a departmental email address (see below).

B. Add/update a departmental email address. You may have received a departmental email address if you are affiliated with a UMass department that maintains its own email system (e.g., Computer Science), one of the Five Colleges, another UMass campus, or the President's Office. Find out whether you have an OIT-approved departmental email address.

C. Add/update a non-UMass email address. These are email addresses from commercial providers, not affiliated with the University.

D. Choose which email address you wish to publish in People Finder and the UMass print directory.

  1. In the left Menu, go to My Personal Information > Email Addresses. The Email Addresses page will open.
  2. On the Email Addresses page, locate your official email address next to the OIT/UMail email type. Note: UMail remains your official email address, even if you add a departmental email address.
  3. To add a departmental email address:
    • From the *Email Type drop-down menu, select UMass Dept Managed/5College.
    • In the *Email Address field, enter your address.
    • Click Save, then OK to confirm the save.
  4. To add a non-UMass email address:
    • From the *Email Type drop-down menu, select Non-UMass.
    • In the *Email Address field, enter your address.
    • Click Save, then OK to confirm the save.
  5. To make an email address available in People Finder and the UMass Amherst print directory, select the Preferred check box next to the address of your choice, then click Save. Please note:
    • Students can only publish their UMail or departmental email address. Non-UMass email addresses cannot be published in either directory.
    • Any changes to your email information will appear in People Finder within two business days and in the next available print directory.
    • Your UMail address will be listed in both directories unless you select the Preferred check box for a departmental email address or you request that your email address be kept private. Learn more about updating your directory information.
