In SPIRE, you can access class rosters for your UMass Amherst courses. These rosters are dynamic, meaning that, during open registration, they will change based on who adds and drops your classes.
Note:
- Class rosters are available for any term since Spring 1986. Grade rosters are only available for terms since Fall 2002.
- SPIRE class rosters are updated in real time, and are always more recent than Mobius class rosters (updated once a day).
- If you are a Teaching Assistant, SPIRE will only display the rosters for the sections that you are teaching (i.e., not for the entire class).
- Class rosters for related components (e.g., discussions, labs, etc.) may not be available for past semesters.
- To add a student who does not meet the enrollment restrictions for your class, contact a so-called "SPIRE B" staff member in your department. This person has the authorization to override these restrictions and add the student into your class.
- In SPIRE, go to your Faculty Center, if you're not already there (Faculty Home > Faculty Center). Your teaching assignments for the current term will appear under My Teaching Schedule.
- To view your class rosters for a different term, click change term. On the Select Term page, choose a different term, then click Continue. The Faculty Center wil refresh listing your classes for the term of your choice.
- Under My Teaching Schedule, click the Class Roster icon (
) next to the class whose students you wish to see. The Class Roster page for this class will open. - On the Class Roster page, the Class Roster Information section lists the basic identifiers for your class (e.g., Subject Area, Catalog Number, Title, Class and Section Number, etc.). Click the Double Arrow icon (
) to hide this section. - To see all the students enrolled in your class, make sure the Enrollment Status is set to Enrolled (if not already selected).
- (Optional) To see the students who dropped your class, from the Enrollment Status drop-down list, select Dropped, then click change. Your Class Roster will refresh, listing the students who dropped your class in the Dropped Students table.
- (Optional) To see the students waiting to add your class, from the Enrollment Status drop-down list, select Waiting, then click change. Your Class Roster will refresh, listing any waitlisted students. Note: Waitlisted students will appear on the Class Roster page only if your class uses a SPIRE waitlist. Waitlist information is available even after the first day of classes (when SPIRE waitlists expire).
- In the Enrolled Students table, your students are listed alphabetically by last name. Details for each student include:
- ID: The student's 8-digit UMass ID.
- Name: The student's first and last name. Note: Your roster will list a student's preferred first name (e.g., Mike instead of Michael) if the student added a Preferred Name in SPIRE.
- Grade: The grading basis the student chose for your class (e.g., UG Letter - undergraduate letter; GR Letter - graduate letter; *W Drop, etc.) Note: Students can update the grading basis for a class in SPIRE. Any changes will be reflected in the Grade column.
- Units: The number of credits that your class carries. For variable-credit classes (e.g., independent studies), the number of credits the students chose for your class will appear in the Units column.
- Program and Plan: The student’s current degree and major path. Additional details include secondary majors, minors, honors information, etc.
- Level: The student’s academic level (e.g., Sophomore, Junior, Doctorate, Masters, etc.).
- Create a class email list that reaches your entire class. Class email lists can be set up as an announcement tool (where only the instructor can post to the list) or as a discussion board (where everyone can participate). Learn more about Class Email Lists
- Use Mobius rosters to get individual email addresses. Learn more about Mobius
- At the bottom of the Class Roster page, click:
