Help for Advisors
At UMass Amherst, advisors are grouped into “listed advisors” and “drop-in advisors”. Faculty and academic support staff with advising responsibilities fall into one or both of these categories.
Listed Advisors
"Listed advisors" only have access to the academic and personal profiles of the students who have been assigned to them for advising. These students typically major in the same academic department as the advisor.
Access to listed advisees in SPIRE is automatic. Once assigned, students will appear in your SPIRE profile, on the My Advisees page.

Drop-In Advisors
"Drop-in advisors" can see any active student via the New/Drop-In Advisees page in SPIRE.
