Add the OIT Web Site as a Trusted Site in Internet Explorer

If you are using Internet Explorer, you may not be able to download OIT-supported software from off-campus.

Use these instructions to add the OIT Web site as a trusted site in Internet Explorer 7. These steps will also work in Internet Explorer 6, with slight variations, as noted below.

  1. Open Internet Explorer and go to the OIT Web site, then go to Tools > Internet Options. The Internet Options window will open.
  2. In the Internet Options window, click the Security tab.
  3. On the Security tab, click Trusted sites, then Sites. The Trusted sites window will open.
  4. In the Trusted sites window:
    • Under Add this Web site to the zone:, make sure that the URL is correct (http://www.oit.umass.edu).
      Note: If you are using Internet Explorer 6,you will have to type in or copy/paste the URL.
    • Clear the box next to Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.
    • Click Add (at right). The URL will be listed among the trusted sites, under the Websites: heading.
    • Click Close (at bottom). You will return to the Internet Options window.
      Note: If you are using Internet Explorer 6, click OK instead of Close.
  5. In the Internet Options window, click OK to save your settings. You should be able to log in and download OIT-distributed software from off-campus.
