Download an ISO Image from the MSDN-AA Page

The MSDN-AA (Microsoft Developer's Network Academic Alliance) Program is a special agreement between UMass Amherst and Microsoft that allows current UMass Amherst faculty, staff, and students the chance to install most current Microsoft developer tools, platforms, and servers on instructional and research computers free of charge.

This software is downloadable as an ISO image, which is like a digital "snapshot" of all the content in a CD or DVD. You can create copies of all this content from a single ISO image file located on your computer without the need to copy from one disc to another.

  1. Open a browser and go to http://msdnaa.oit.umass.edu, to view a listing of available software and select an application for download, the MSDN-AA page will open.
  2. On the MSDN-AA page, scroll down to the Downloads section on the left and click on the category that best describes the product you want to download, e.g. Applications. The corresponding Downloads page will open.
Note: You can search for a specific product by using Search or by selecting your course number in the course drop-down menu.
  3. On the Downloads page, select the product you wish to download.
    • From the Disc: column, write down the Disc Number of the product you are going to download (e.g., 2506a for Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003). You will need it later to burn the CD.
    • Under Contents: use the drop-down menu to see the contents for the disc image.
    • Click on the application name under Product Title: to download a disc image, the Agreement window will open.
  4. In the Agreement window, read the agreement, and then enter your information in the Name, School, Vocation and Email fields at the bottom of the page. Click I Agree. The Finish window will open.
Note: Use your UMass email address and make sure you enter it correctly. Your installation key and instructions will be sent to you using this email address. Requests for keys from non-UMass email accounts will not be honored.
  5. In the Finish window, click Click here to download ISO image, then click Save. Because of its size, you cannot save the ISO Image in the default location (My Documents). You MUST save it in the C:\Temp folder.
Note: The file name will be the same as the product's Disc Number (e.g., 2506a for Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003).
  6. Expect the download to take several minutes. Once the download is complete, you are ready to burn the application to your CD.
