Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition (AE) is an anti-spyware program that detects and removes both known and emerging malicious threats. Ad-Aware AE is available for free from its developer. To download the software, go to: www.lavasoft.com

We recommend that you use Ad-Aware AE in conjunction with SpyBot Search & Destroy since one program can often catch spyware the other has overlooked. See our SpyBot documentation for more information.

1. From www.lavasoft.com, click Download Ad-Aware Free (green button) to download your copy of Ad-Aware.
2. A new Lavasoft page will open, giving you the option to choose between Ad-Aware Free and Ad-Aware Plus. We recommend that you click Download under Ad-Aware Free.
   Note: Ad-Aware Plus is also listed as free but will require you to sign up for a trial period with a third-party vendor.
3. The Welcome Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition users page will open. Click Download Now.
4. A prompt will open, asking if you wish to save the download. Click Save File.
5. The Enter name of file to save to... window will open. Choose where to save the file on your computer and click Save. The file will download to your computer.
6. Open Ad-Aware AE from where you've saved it.
7. A Security Warning window will open. Click Run.
8. Follow the installation prompts.
9. Once the installation is complete, an Ad-Aware Installation Complete window will open. You will need to restart your computer to finish the installation. Select Restart now and click Finish.

We recommend that you update Ad-Aware before running a scan. Updates are not necessary if the Web Update Status (under the globe) reads OK.

1. Open Ad-Aware. A Manage License window will open. Since you are using the free version of Ad-Aware, click Close.
2. In the main Ad-Aware window, click Web Update (the globe). An Ad-Aware: Update Manager screen will open. This update may take a few moments.
3. Once your update is complete, the main Ad-Aware window will re-open.

1. Open Ad-Aware.
2. In the main Ad-Aware window, select Scan System (green target). An Ad-Aware: Choose a Scan Mode screen will open.
3. Click the Smart Scan tab (if not already selected), then click Scan Now. The Ad-Aware: Scanning System screen will open. This scan may take a few minutes.
4. Once the scan is complete, you will see the results of your scan. From the Action drop-down menu, choose how you'd like to handle the results of your scan. We recommend highlighting Recommended, then clicking Perform Actions Now at the bottom of the window.
5. The Ad-Aware: Scan Summary screen will open, displaying the result(s) of your action(s), which should read Successful.
   Note: Click Export scanlog if you'd like to save your scan summary. Choose where to save your summary and click Save.

You have now completed your scan with Ad-Aware AE.
