OIT helps academic and administrative departments comply with data security standards and policies. We often work with campus IT professionals to prevent and respond to data security incidents in their departments.

Security Community of Practice

The Security Community of Practice [3] (SCOP) is an interest group for IT professionals at UMass Amherst sponsored by OIT. Meetings occur quarterly and are intended as a forum for best practices on computer security topics. Past topics include:

• Incident response procedures
• Using Identity Finder
• Information security controls
• Legal issues related to security breaches
• Encryption
