On Friday, June 28, 2013, the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) will begin moving current undergraduates’ email from UMail, the University’s legacy email system, to Google Mail.

Students' new Google Mail accounts have their UMass Amherst email address and are their official email account for the time they are at the University. Google Mail is part of Apps at UMass Amherst, Google’s suite of collaboration tools for educational institutions, customized especially for our campus.

Many Office of Information Technologies (OIT) services were affected by an afternoon hardware failure on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Authentication, email, and other services were unavailable between approximately 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. All services are currently operating normally. Note: Messages sent to Mailman-hosted mailing lists were delayed for several hours after this afternoon's outage. Please report any problems to the OIT Help Center. 

UPDATE: OIT's Web hosting server was unavailable this morning between 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. due to unforeseen issues during scheduled maintenance. The webadmin.umass.edu Web server will be unavailable again on Thursday, June 13, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. For any problems encountered before or after Thursday's maintenance window, administrators of www.umass.edu Web sites are encouraged contact the OIT Help Center.
