1. Cisco VPN is available from OIT at no cost to members of the UMass Community from the Supported Software & Downloads for Macintosh page.
2. Once on the Downloads page, click Download to obtain the Cisco VPN client software for Macintosh OS 10.

   Note: If you are connecting to the Internet using a non-UMass Internet Service Provider (ISP), you will need to enter your NetID and UMAccess password before downloading this software.

3. Double-click on Cisco VPN on your desktop to start the installation. The Cisco VPN Client window will open.
4. In the Cisco VPN Clientwindow, click Cisco VPN Client.mpkg
5. In the Welcome to the Cisco VPN installer screen, click Continue.
6. In the Software License Agreement screen, click Continue, an agreement dialogue will appear, click Agree.
7. In the Select a Destination screen, select Macintosh HD and click Next.
8. In the Easy install on Macintosh HD screen, click Install. An authentication dialogue will appear.
9. Before the installation can begin, you must enter your Mac OS X password in the password field. Click OK.
10. Once the installation is complete, you will see the Install Software screen and a message that reads "The software was successfully installed". Click Close to exit the installer. Note: You will not need to restart your computer.

1. Go to Applicationsand click VPN Client. The VPN Client Window will open
2. In the VPN Client window, click New at the top to add a new connection entry..
3. In the VPN Client / Create New VPN Connection Entry window, enter :
   • Connection Entry: umass_wireless
   • Host: vpn1.oit.umass.edu
4. Under the Authentication tab, select Group Authentication and enter the following information into these fields:
   • Name: wireless
   • Password: wireless
   • Confirm Password: wireless
5. Click Save.
6. In the VPN Client window, under the Connection Entries tab, look for the new connection (umass_wireless). If it is visible, you have successfully created a new Virtual Private Networking connection.

To connect to the UMass wireless network, you'll need to identify yourself as a member of the UMass community.Note: You must log-in before you connect with the VPN client. To do so:

1. Turn on or re-start your computer.
2. Open an Internet browser (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer).
3. Attempt to access a Web page.
4. If your computer and wireless card are correctly configured, you will see the UMass wireless network log-in screen.
5. In the fields on the left-hand side of the screen, enter your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMAccess password.
6. If successful, you will be briefly directed to a confirmation screen and then to the Web page you tried to access.

1. Double-click the Cisco VPN Client on your desktop.
2. In the VPN CLient window, under the Connection Entries tab, make sure the umass_wireless connection entry is selected. Click the Connect icon at the top of the VPN Client window.
3. Select umass_wireless.
4. Click Connect.

   Note: There is an idle timeout of 30 minutes on your VPN session. This means that if you establish a VPN connection and then don't use any network software for 30 minutes, you may be disconnected from the VPN server. If this happens, you will have to reconnect to the VPN server.

5. The VPN Dialer will attempt to establish a connection to the VPN. You will be prompted for your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMAccess password, then click Connect.
6. You will see a login banner that reads: Connection Successful! Click Continue to complete the login process.
