Your Wired MAC Address is the 12-character ID that indentifies your wired network card. Your Wireless MAC Address is the 12-character hardware ID for your wireless network card. On a Linux machine, these IDs are the same.
These instructions are based on the Ubuntu version of Linux, however, the terminal command described below should work on all versions of Linux.
- Open a Terminal window (usually located in Applications > Accessories > Terminal).
- In the Terminal window, at the prompt, type ifconfig and press Enter. You will see a list of the networking devices installed on your computer and their respective information.
- Your wired or wireless network card will most likely be named eth1. Find your MAC Address in the HWAddr field (at right).
