How do I register?

Registration is completed entirely online. To access the NetReg registration pages, you must:

  2. Re-start or turn on your computer.
  3. Open an Internet browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
  4. Attempt to access any Web page. You will be automatically be redirected to the NetReg registration screens.

When do I need to register?

You need to register your computer once each semester. Semesters are defined as follows:

  • Fall Semester
  • Winter Session & Spring Semester
  • Summer Sessions I and II

Do I need to re-register to use my computer in another dorm or classroom?

Each computer needs to be registered only once per semester. Once successfully registered, it should work on any live Ethernet jack that is part of the NetReg system. NetReg jacks are available in all public classrooms and residence halls except Family Housing.

If you try to register a computer that is already registered, you will see a message confirming the existing registration.

Which computers need to be registered?

You need to register any computer you will use to connect to the campus network via a NetReg Ethernet jack.

If you use more than one computer (such as laptop and a desktop computer), you must register each one before you can use both to access the campus network.

How many computers can I register?

You can register up to two computers at a time. If you have already registered two computers and you want to register another one, you will be prompted to un-register one of the first two during the registration process.

If you believe you need to register more than two computers, contact NetReg@oit.umass.edu.

Please be aware that you are responsible for all network activity attributed to computer(s) registered under your OIT Computing Account. Giving your OIT Computing Account password to another person (for registering a computer to NetReg or any other purpose) is a violation of the OIT Acceptable Use Policy. If you "loan" your account to somebody else, you will be held responsible for any illegal activities originating from the other individual's computer.

What if I sell or dispose of my computer?

You should remove that computer from the NetReg system using the registration removal process.

Note: It is very important to unregister a computer once you sell it to avoid liability for any illegal network activity by the buyer.
