Ethernet Configuration

Linux Ubuntu

Operating System: Ubuntu

Configure Your Ethernet Connection

  1. Go to System > Administration > Networking. The Network settings window will open.
  2. In the Network settings window, in the Connections tab:
    • Select Ethernet connection and click Activate.
    • Make sure no other connections (i.e., Wireless or Modem) are activated. If there are active connections other than Ethernet, select the active connection and click Deactivate.

Test your Connection

  1. Open an Internet browser to test your connection (e.g., Mozilla Firefox). Note: If you are using a jack that is part of the Network Registration system (NetReg), you will need to register your computer before you can access the campus network.
  2. After you launch your browser, enter a URL. If you are using a NetReg jack, you will automatically be redirected to the NetReg Web site. The NetReg site can be found at:http://netreg.oit.umass.edu/.
