General Troubleshooting Tips

Note: As of June 12, 2007, this service requires your UMail password (the password you usually enter to access your UMass email account) to log in. OIT is phasing out the use of the UMAccess password in an effort to simplify the way members of the UMass community connect to the campus network and access other OIT services.

If you are experiencing difficulties dialing into UMass, please verify the following information. If the sugestions below do not resolve the issue, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 545-9400, option 1.

Verify that your user name and password are correct.

  • On the connection screen, make sure that your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMAccess password are all in lower case.
  • If you have the password saved, delete it and re-enter the password.
  • If you are unsure of either your Net ID (OIT Account user name) or your UMAccess password, come to the OIT Help Desk, A113 LGRC. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Verify that the number you are dialing is correct.

  • Make sure you are using a valid phone number.

    56k V.90 Dial-up PPP: 577-5600
    56k Dial-up PPP - on campus: 6-5600

  • If you live outside the local Amherst calling area, make sure you have included 1 and the area code (1-413).

Please record any error messages or warnings that appear if the connection fails.

If the connections fails, make sure to write down any error messages or warnings and to have them available when you contact the Help Desk for assistance.
