- Go to Start > Control Panel > Network & Sharing Center. The Network & Sharing Center window will open.
- In the Network & Sharing Center window, click Set up a connection or network. The Set up a connection or network window will open.
- In the Set up a connection or network window, click Connect to the Internet. The How do you want to connect? screen will open.
- On the How do you want to connect? screen, click Dial-up. The Type the information from your Internet service provider (ISP) screen will open.
- On the Type the information from your Internet service provider
(ISP) screen:
- Next to Dial-up phone number:, enter the
appropriate phone number from the list below:
- 56k V.90 Dial-up PPP - off-campus: 577-5600
- 56k Dial-up PPP - on-campus: 6-5600
- Next to User name:, enter your NetID (OIT Acccount user name).
- Next to Password:, enter your UMail password.
- Next to Connection name:, enter a name for this connection. We suggest UMass Dial-up.
- Next to Dial-up phone number:, enter the
appropriate phone number from the list below:
- Click Connect. A connection window will open and, if successful, you will be connected to the campus network.
Connect to the UMass Network
- Make sure your computer is connected to a phone jack. Click Start > Connect To. The Connect to a network window will open and your dial-up connection will be listed under Dial-up & VPN.
- Select your Dial-up connection and click Connect.
- Enter your NetID (OIT Account user name) and UMail password (for security reasons we recommend you do not save your password), then click Dial.
How to Disconnect
- Double-click Dial-up Networking, on the right side of the taskbar, near the time.
- On the UMass Dial-up status screen, click Disconnect.
