Note: As of June 12, 2007, this service requires your UMail password (the password you usually enter to access your UMass email account) to log in. OIT is phasing out the use of the UMAccess password in an effort to simplify the way members of the UMass community connect to the campus network and access other OIT services.
- Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences. Under Network & Internet, click Network. Then, click on the TCP/IP tab.
- Enter the following information:
- In the Location drop-down menu, select Automatic.
- In the Show drop-down menu, select Internal Modem.
- In the drop-down menu, select Using PPP.
- In the DNS Servers field, type 128.119.100.83 and 128.119.100.19.
- In the Search Domains field, type oit.umass.edu.
Configure PPP
- Click the PPP tab and enter the following information:
- In the Configure drop-down menu, select Internal Modem.
- In the Service Provider field, enter UMass - OIT.
- In the Account Name field, enter your NetID (OIT Account user name).
- In the Telephone field, enter the appropriate number from the list below.
- 56k V.90 Dial-up PPP: 577-5600
- 56k Dial-up PPP - on campus: 6-5600
Note: If you have Call Waiting, you can disable it by typing *70, (comma included) before the phone number. This will disable Call Waiting while you are connected.
Configure Modem
- Click on the Modem tab.
- From the Modem drop-down menu, select your modem type (most are listed by manufacturer). If your modem is not listed, try one that looks similar to yours. If you continue to have problems, contact the OIT Help Desk.
Establish a Connection
- Click the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, click Applications.
- Double-click Internet Connect.
- Enter your UMail password, then click Connect.

- Once a PPP connection is made, the status box will report Connection Established. You have now established a dial-up connection.
How to Disconnect
To disconnect from UMass, click Disconnect on the Internet Connect panel.
