Recommended & Minimum System Configurations

UMass Amherst students are not required to own a computer, but a large number of students do own them, and they are increasingly being used in the classroom and for assignments. Having a personal computer also allows students to take advantage of the high-speed Internet access available in dorms. Computer classrooms with printers are available in 11 locations on campus for those students who do not own computers.

Before you purchase a new computer, make sure you’ve checked out OIT’s recommended computer configurations. These are general guidelines on which Windows and Macintosh desktop and laptop computer configurations work best in the UMass Amherst computing environment.
