Remote Printing:

Print to the Learning Commons from Anywhere On Campus

The UMass Amherst community can now print documents from anywhere on campus to the black-and-white printers in the Learning Commons. Set up is easy. Simply download the remote printing software and print as you usually would using the Pay-for-Print system in the OIT Computer Classrooms. We anticipate that remote printing will be most useful for laptop users.

Download & Install the Remote Printing Software

To set up your computer to print to the Learning Commons, you'll need to the download and install remote printing software on your computer. This software only needs to be installed once.

Windows XP & 2000 (exe, 578 K)

Macintosh 10.4 and 10.5 on PowerPC or Intel processors (dmg, 272 KB)

After you've downloaded the software, save the file to your computer and follow the instructions to install the software.

Note: Depending upon which browser you are using and your security settings, you may receive a security warning.

Send Your Print Job to the Learning Commons Print Queue

  1. Once you have installed the remote printing software, open the file you would like to print and click Print as you normally would.
  2. From the list of available printers, select LC Remote BW and print the document.
  3. The Print Job Details window will open. In the Print Job Details window, enter your NetID, and, if you wish, a password and a name for your print job.
Note: Macintosh users: The NetID you enter in this window is the user name you use to log in to your Macintosh computer. This may not be the same as your NetID (OIT Account user name).
  4. Click Print. Your print job will now be stored at the Learning Commons printing queue for up to eight (8) hours. For more information on how to pay for and retrieve your print job, see How to Print.
Note: Macintosh users: When picking up your print job at the Print Release Station, make sure you enter the user name you use to log in to your computer.
