Burn a CD in OIT Computer Classrooms (Windows)

Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic is installed on all computers in OIT Classrooms, use it to burn Data CDs and ISO images

Burn a Data CD

A data CD store files such as images, documents, or software. There are two kinds, CD-Rs, which you can only use once, and CD-RWs which allow you to write data to them a first time and then add more at a later date, you can also erase what's on them entirely and re-use them again from scratch, which you can't do with CD-Rs.

Note: The instructions below are specific to the burning software installed in OIT Computer Classrooms (Roxio Easy CD Creator). Although your computer might use a different burning software, these instructions should provide a general guide for completing this process. Refer to the documentation provided with your software for more information.

  1. Press the Eject button on the CD-RW drive to open it.
Note: The CD-RW drive might also be the DVD drive, and may only be labeled DVD.
  2. Insert your blank CD-R or blank or partially full CD-RW media in the CD-RW drive.
  3. Go to Start > Programs > CD Authoring Tools > Easy CD Creator. The Untitled Data CD Project - Easy CD Creator window will open.
Note: If the Registration Reminder window opens click Remind me later.
  4. The Untitled Data CD Project - Easy CD Creator window is where you assemble the list of files to burn to your CD. You can drag and drop files to burn to your CD from within this window, or directly from the Desktop, My Documents, Windows Explorer, etc.
    • The top half of the screen allows you to browse files on your computer, using common Windows procedures. Select a file and click Add to add it to the currently selected directory of your CD.
    • Click the Find Files or Folders icon (the magnifying glass) to open a separate Windows Explorer search window.
    • The bottom half of the display is much like Windows Explorer: the left side displays your CD's name (which you can edit here), with any folder(s) currently copied onto it, the right side displays the file(s) or folder(s) within a folder, or (by default) the directory of the whole CD.
    • The green Project Size bar at the very bottom shows you how much space you have used and/ or how much is still available on your CD.
  5. When you are finished assembling files, click the record button to burn your CD. The Record CD Setup window will open.
  6. In the Record CD Setup window, all of the options should be correctly setup by default, but there are various adjustments you could make if necessary:
    • In the Select CD-R Drive: field, select your CD-R/RW drive if it is not already selected.
    • In the Write Speed: field, indicate the speed at which you would like to burn the CD.
    • In the Number of Copies: field, enter the number of copies you would like to burn.
  7. In the Record CD Setup window, click Start Recording to begin the CD burn process. The Record CD Progress window will open.
  8. In the Record CD Progress window, the Disc Progress field will display CD created successfully when the burn is finished, click OK to close the window.
