Email

UMail is UMass Amherst's official email system. The University only uses UMail addresses when sending official communications to students. Our email service offers:

  • Enhanced security
  • Spam filtering and tagging
  • Mail forwarding, vacation reply, and other convenient email management features

Internet Access

  • On Campus: OIT provides high-speed Internet access via Ethernet in most campus buildings, including all residence halls. Wireless access is available in an ever-growing number of locations on campus.
  • Off-Campus: Connect to the University network using our dial-up service.

OIT Accounts provide access to free and low-cost software as well as discounts on computers and peripherals.

  • Computers & Peripherals
    U$ave is a volume purchasing program that offers competitive rates on desktops, laptops, and peripherals to UMass students, faculty, and staff.
  • Software
    Members of the University community receive significant discounts on Microsoft Office and Adobe software via the Microsoft Select and Adobe Select programs. Free copies of Windows operating systems and other Microsoft software are available to students and faculty through our participation in the Microsoft Developer's Network. Free anti-virus software, browsers, and email clients are also available from our our software download site.

Student Information System (SPIRE)

SPIRE is the University's secure, Web-based student records system. Students use SPIRE to register for classes, view grades, sign up for on-campus housing, and manage their University finances. Faculty and authorized staff use SPIRE to manage student records, billing, and housing assignments as well as course and schedule information. SPIRE gives everyone, including prospective students, access to the online course schedule and catalog.

Learning Management System (SPARK)

SPARK is the online learning managment system used for on-campus courses at UMass Amherst. Instructors use SPARK to post syllabi, calendars, grades, and other course content online. When students register for a class that uses SPARK, their NetID and password will give them access to SPARK.

File Storage & Sharing (UDrive)

UDrive is OIT's secure secure file storage and sharing system. This easy-to-use, Web-based software allows you to store and share your files from wherever you have Internet access.

Computer Classrooms

Public computers with high-end academic software are available in 10 computer classrooms and in the Learning Commons. Injstructors can reserve classrooms for activities that require computer use. The classrooms are open to the UMass Amherst community when a class is not in session.

OIT's blogging service is open to all students, faculty, and staff at UMass Amherst. Access your blog with your NetID and password!

OIT Accounts provide 100MB of space on our server for personal Web sites. Faculty may apply for space for each of their courses. More...
