Activate Your Account

Incoming undergraduate and graduate students: You can activate your account online.

Otherwise you must come in person to OIT Account Management (A113 LGRC) Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., with your valid UCard (UMass picture ID), to open a new account, add a service or to have your password reset if you forget it. This is a security precaution to protect you and the privacy of your account.

New Students

OIT emails account information to undergraduate and graduate students' non-UMass email addresses soon after new students reserve their spot at the University.

Activate your account from home

Once you've received your account information, you can activate your OIT Account and begin using it before you arrive on campus.

Activate your account once you get to campus

If you received the account materials in the mail you can also activate your account when you get to campus. All residence halls are now Ethernet-enabled. If you have your own computer and are living in a residence hall the Ethernet jacks are pre-activated and you can simply "plug-and-play".

  • Plug in your computer.
  • Install and configure your connectivity software.
  • Activate your account with OIT (if not done from home).
  • Register your computer on the network using NetReg. Learn more about NetReg.

Returning Students

  • Your NetID (OIT Account user name) will be reserved for three years from its activation date.
  • If you had an active OIT Account during the past semester, but have forgotten your password, you will have to change it (see reactivating procedures below).
  • At the beginning of each semester (September, January and June), students in residence halls must register their computers on the campus network using NetReg. Learn more about NetReg.

Reactivating an OIT Student Account or Changing a Password

  • To reactivate your OIT Account or to change your account password, use our Password Changer Form or come to room A113, LGRC, M-F between 8:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.
  • Make sure to bring your UCard.
  • Be aware that account reactivations and password changes do not take effect immediately. You may have to wait until the following morning to access your account and services.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff who need to activate an account, change their password, or use other account management services, should come to A113 LGRC. (Note that you can also change your password with our Password Changer Form.) Account services are available Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Make sure to bring your UCard with you!
