The OIT Video Conferencing Classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art Tandberg video conferencing equipment, and allows interactive real time exchange of voice, video, and data with other facilities across the region, country, or around the world.
Our video conferencing facility is primarily used to foster teaching and learning at UMass Amherst and UMass System institutions. The room is also used by the UMass Amherst News Office to conduct remote interviews and for other news production activities.
Academic Computing provides training and consulting on using video conferencing effectively as a teaching tool. This facility can also be used for the development of multimedia content through lecture capture or classroom based video production for use in teaching and podcasting.
Administrative or departmental use can be arranged based on availability.

Remote site must comply with the H.323 standard (IP).

Remote site must comply with the H.323 standard (IP). We are also H.264 capable for superior video quality. Testing prior to event is required.
Room Configuration
There are configurable tables which seat 20, plus additional chairs.
Charges
There is no charge to use this room for most video conferences. A $40 /hr. "'overtime fee" may be applied if the video conference takes place after 5 p.m., M-F. Other charges may be applied depending upon the purpose of the video conference.
Portable System
The Tandberg 500 portable system can be set up in rooms other than the OIT Video Conferencing Classroom to provide temporary video conferencing capabilities (e.g., a meeting in a publicly scheduled classroom). The requested room location needs to have an active OIT Ethernet jack.
