Systems Analyst

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) seeks to fill one position as a Systems Analyst in its Network Systems and Services (NSS) group. The successful applicant designs, configures, maintains, and supports web technology services provided by Network Systems and Services/OIT for enterprise campus use. These services deliver and provide mission critical functions to a campus community of over 25,000 members. Some of these services include the campus home page, public web and Blog services, and on-line file storage and multimedia technologies. Additionally, the person recommends new technologies, helps plan the future directions of NSS, and leads projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related major, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. Must have a combination of at least 4 (four) years current work experience in web application development/support and installation/administration of Linux/Unix-based systems. Experience working in a large, complex educational environment a plus.
  • Must have experience managing one or more server-based applications including LAMP packages, Apache/Tomcat Packages, content management systems (Drupal or Plone Zope), or Wordpress. Experience with databases such as Mysql and Oracle desired.
  • Must be able to demonstrate programming knowledge of CSS, XML, PHP, AJAX, Ruby and Java technologies. Must have recent development experience and best practices in each.
  • Must be able to demonstrate programming knowledge in scripting languages and shell environments such as PERL and the Bash shell.
  • Experience with the installation, configuration and management of web/application servers (Apache/Tomcat, JBoss) in Unix-based server environment (RedHat ES, Mac OS X, Solaris) desired.
  • Extensive experience working with multiple computer systems in a networked client/server environment. Detailed knowledge of TCP/IP-based networking, the management of shared resources in a networked environment, and security management desired.
  • Experience in meeting the demands of complex production oriented environments where timeliness and availability of information is considered critical. Must be able to work effectively to resolve problems under stressful conditions where the rapid restoration of normal operations is critical.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills are required. Must have previous work experience requiring extensive interactions with peers in a collaborative role and experience assisting users of common applications, such as email and editors.
  • Some off-hour/weekend work will be required to respond to critical network problems and modifications. Personal pagers will be provided for off-hour contact consistent with departmental policies. Experience in a higher education environment preferred.

Hiring Salary Range: $46,700 – $58,300

For the exceptionally well-qualified candidate, the hiring range may be extended to $69,900.

Normal Starting Salary: $46,700 - $52,500
