GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Senior Software Engineer in support of the Center for Educational Software Development (CESD), which researches and develops web-based instructional and assessment systems, Web-based administrative support tools for education, and intelligent multimedia tutoring systems and authoring tools. The Senior Software Engineer helps organize and execute advanced software development projects, including management of project, design, programming, and testing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.S. in Computer Science or related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience, OR B.S. in Computer Science or related field with 7-10 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
- Excellent programming skills in Java and C++.
- Experience administering current Windows operating systems and networks.
- Experience in database administration.
- Experience with software engineering practices, building user interfaces and systems integration.
- Experience with the following: WWW applications development using Java; XML document processing; SQL database development; object oriented programming design techniques; HTML interface design; networking.
- Experience with one or more of the following: course management systems; student information systems; electronic commerce systems; authentication mechanisms such as LDAP; instructional design; Artificial Intelligence techniques; multimedia design and use for electronic training systems; multimedia authoring and production tools.
- Experience with Flash or other multimedia programming languages desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and cooperative skills; ability to work with people of varying backgrounds.
- Experience in supervisory or team leadership roles.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working with clients to produce application requirements specifications.
- Experience with managing commercial software development projects, especially testing and release procedures.

Hiring Salary Range: $62,500 - $78,100
Normal Starting Salary: $62,500 - $70,300
For the exceptionally well qualified candidate, the hiring range may be extended up to $85,900.
