GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Director of Administrative Computing Technology, the Instructional Technology Systems Administrator is responsible for the configuration, management, and support of all campus Course Management System (CMS) Services on multiple computer systems operated by the Office of Information Technologies for campus use. These CMS Services are a critical part of the delivery of online course materials to over 20,000 members of the campus community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years experience, OR a Master’s degree and 1-3 years experience, in a broad range of computing technologies, programming, and applications software; especially in the areas of large mission critical web application support and Unix Linux systems administration.
  • Knowledge of the range of security issues related to web-based applications and approaches to securing such environments.
  • Proven expertise with respect to computing systems, applications, and programming skills appropriate to Linux systems and network administration in a large multi-tiered web application environment. Systems should include, but are not limited to UNIX/Linux, and PC and Mac clients. Programming and applications skills should include, but are not limited to Java, Perl, PHP, XML, and JavaScript. Experience with shell scripting in Bash highly desirable.
  • Experience with Blackboard/WebCT CE or Vista a plus.
  • Experience with BEA Weblogic Application Server and/or multi-tier web applications highly desirable. Experience with Oracle database software and clustered server environments also highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with a service-oriented attitude are paramount. Ability to work cooperatively with peers, taking a leading role on collaborative projects.
  • Must be enterprising, diplomatic, and proactive at solving problems.
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively, in a highly organized manner. Must be flexible to changing needs and priorities and able to work accurately and productively in an environment that can involve many interruptions and changing priorities.
  • A willingness to take on new and challenging tasks as they arise.

Hiring Salary Range: $46,700 - $58,300.

Normal Starting Range: $46,700 - $52,500.
