Program Goals
The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is sponsoring a UMass Summer Computer Technology Internship Program. OIT has identified as a priority the need to diversify its staff and would like to draw on the student population of participating colleges by providing invaluable technical work experience during the Summer of 2008.
The experience will provide the students with the opportunity to develop their technical and organizational skills by working in a large IT organization. OIT consists of approximately 157 employees, with a budget of $20M. OIT functions as the main technology support organization for approximately 25,900 students, 1,169 faculty and 6,134 staff on the Amherst campus.
Specifically, the UMass Summer Computer Technology Internship Program will fund students from participating colleges (UMass Boston, several Massachusetts community colleges and Alabama State University) to work in a variety of technical positions within OIT from Monday, June 2, 2008 through Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
